THE CENTER OF GRAVITY FOR ENTREPRENEURS IN TEXAS
David Vogelpohl is the organizer for AUSOME (Austin Online Marketing for Entrepreneurs). Ausome is Austin’s #1 online marketing meetup. Their amazing lineup of speakers every month have included some of the brightest minds in online marketing such as Brian Combs (Found of Apogee), Bryan Eisenberg (Author “Call to Action”, “Waiting for your Cat to Bark”), Chris Pearson (Thesis), David Vogelpohl (Marketing Clique), Tony Wright (Wright SEM), Brian Massey (The Conversion Scientist), Roger Dooly (Author of Brainfluence), Shawn Collins (Affiliate Summit), and much more! If you want national conference quality content in your own back yard, check out Ausome!
Why did you begin organizing this Meetup?
I took it over after it was abandoned by about 3 different organizers had dropped it and had been dormant for over a year. Austin had one other large online marketing meetup at the time (that one is gone now), but there were still a lot of people looking for quality online marketing content. We started holding the meetup and people showed up so we kept doing it. Austin claims a huge number of nationally known online marketers as residents so we were able to start scoring presenters who are keynote speakers at major conferences and super smart. I’m guessing it wouldn’t have been this easy to do organizing an online marketing meetup in Houston.
What do you do when you aren’t organizing Meetups, professionally or in your free time?
I run a company called Marketing Clique which provides advanced web development and online marketing services. I also speak at national events like Pubcon, Affiliate Summit, and WordCamp. Have two awesome boys (6 & 2) and with the tiny little bit of free time I have left, I love playing FPS games on my Xbox 🙂
What are you looking forward to most in the 2015 Austin tech and startup scene?
Seeing it grow. There’s still a huge demand for qualified online marketers and developers in Austin. I think we all benefit from contributing to the community and trying to make it grow. This is what I’m most looking forward to this year in the Austin Tech scene.
What do you love about hosting at Capital Factory?
Not being a pitch man for booze. Our original venue was a bar. The setup was fine (big room, screen, audio), but there was a drink and food minimum. Every month I would get up like some sort of sports arena beer guy and solicit the crowd to make sure they ordered food and drinks.
Of course all kidding aside, the thing I love most outside of the awesome venue is the support staff. Ashleigh and those that came before her are invaluable to pulling off our meetup. I really don’t know what we’d do without them.
Do you attend any other Meetups besides your own?
Yes. I attend a variety of meetups from time to time. My favorites are the PHP Meetup and the Austin WordPress Meetup.
What do you love about living in Austin?
Because it’s like living in San Francisco with better weather and a healthy dose of Texan pragmatism.
