Lunch and Learn: DoD Innovation with DIU Director Michael Brown
Join us for a barbeque lunch to learn from Senior DoD leader (and former Fortune 500 CEO) Michael Brown about how innovation and entrepreneurship is critical for national security and how we all have a part to play in building the National Security Innovation Base.
Michael Brown is the new Director of the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), a Department of Defense organization that accelerates the adoption of commercial technology into the U.S. military to strengthen national security. DIU strengthens our national security by increasing the adoption of commercial technology throughout the military and has provided over $266 million in non-dilutive capital to companies to solve national security problems.
Before leading DIU, Michael co-authored a report on the level of foreign investment in early stage technology ventures, supported passage of the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act (FIRRMA) and led an initiative for a Defense Department investment vehicle for dual-use hardware technologies called National Security Innovation Capital. Both were signed into law in August, 2018. Before that, Michael was the President and CEO of Symantec, the world’s leading cybersecurity firm.
