Don't miss Demo Day 2012 on October 11

Thursday, October 11, 2012 | 9:00am-2:30pmCapital Factory | 701 Brazos Street | 16th floor

As part of Austin Startup Week 2012 Capital Factory is hosting Demo Day followed by the Austin Startup Crawl.

Our Demo Day features Austin tech startups that can profitably reach $1 million in revenue on less than $1 million in funding. We’re filling the room with 100 investors interested in funding them. We think that’s a sweet spot for Austin and we think that you’ll agree. Those kinds of startups get funded here.

Thank you to the Austin Chamber

We owe a big thank you to Susan Davenport, Bryan Jones and of course Mike Rollins at the Austin Chamber for their support in opening the new Capital Factory coworking space as part our partnership in the Austin Tech Live initiative.

It was clear from the very beginning that we shared a vision for how a vibrant, urban coworking space and entrepreneurial center could spur the development of new innovation and economic growth. I worked very closely with Susan Davenport, Bill Boebel, Steve Oskoui and Rhonda Allen over the course of many months to make this a reality and I can’t imagine how it would have happened without everyone’s combined effort.

Thank you Susan. Thank you Bryan. Thank you Mike!

New coworking space open for business, full with a waiting list

Our new 22,000 square foot coworking space in Austin has been open for business for about 3 months and it’s already full with a waiting list. More than 100 entrepreneurs are working from the top floor of Austin Centre at 7th and Brazos downtown. We’ve given hundreds of tours.

We’ve got some great companies working there now and we are ordering more furniture that will double our capacity by the end of the year.

Just as exciting as the companies that are calling Capital Factory home are the meetups and events that have been happening in our coworking area at night. With room for 100 people seated at desks with power and fast internet or 150 people in chairs, we can handle just about any meetup in town.

We’re already booked 3-4 nights a week with events such as Austin on Rails, Lean Startup Circle, Refresh-Austin and the WordPress Meetup – just to name a few. We also have hack-a-thons and other events happening once or twice a month on the the weekends.

We’re attracting national attention. We were on the front page of CNN for a week and representatives from a handful of other states have come to visit us to learn more about what we do.

Overall I’m very happy with how things are going but there is still a lot of work to do in order to make this a sustainable resource for the Austin startup community.

Over the next few months we will be adding some additional conference rooms and a classroom. The classroom will be set up for about 40 students and will have video recording and streaming at the push of a button.

We will also be adding some glass walls to create more security for the private desks and also to make it easier to maximize use of the coworking area in the evenings and on the weekends. We’re also adding 4 more phone booths just for the coworking area.

After the construction, we will be doubling the number of private desks so that we can accommodate 125 Work Members.

I’m going to try and post updates like this frequently. Feel free to prod us on Twitter @CapitalFactory if there is something you want to know.

New accelerator schedule to align with SXSW

I’m excited to announce that we are changing the schedule for our accelerator program. Previously, we have opened applications in the spring, run the program in the summer, and had demo day in the fall. Moving forward, we will be shifting our schedule to the winter in order to better align with SXSW Interactive and take advantage of the investors and press that it brings to Austin
