Five Liters

Five Liters is a subsidiary of current Texas Fund portfolio company, Spark Biomedical. Spark is the creator of a the FDA approved vegal nerve stimulator, the Sparrow, with existing indications in treating in opioid withdrawal without chemical intervention. In partnership with Northwell Health, the company has significantly expanded the indications into a number of blood based therapies and the reduction of blood loss. Northwell Health has been studying the application of neuro-stimulation to reduce blood loss and increase clotting, building 17 years worth of clinical investigation on the applications. Spark Biomedical's existing, FDA approved device, has shown to be one of the most effective methods of stimulation for these applications in blood therapy. Applications span three categories: blood disorders like hemophilia, prophylactic applications like invasive surgeries and reactive applications like traumatic bleeding. Studies have shown a reduction in bleed time and blood loss up to a 50% improvement, making this an incredibly important device that leverages existing neural pathways to promote the body's natural ability to clot and limit blood loss.
