CODE OF CONDUCT

Our Code of Conduct really boils down to the Golden Rule:

Treat people the way you want to be treated.

LET US BE CLEAR:

These standards listed below are what we expect of everyone that is in our space, including event attendees, members, community organizers, mentors, investors, guests, and Capital Factory staff.

You are welcome here

Yes, we mean YOU. We are of all races, genders, beliefs, orientations, backgrounds, ages, fandoms, programming languages and Hogwarts Houses. This is our house, our family. Come hang out with us and help us make awesome futures for all humans (and maybe some robots).

Pay it forward

Being part of our community means helping each other out—without the expectation of anything in return. Help out other members of the community by making introductions, sharing your experience, or just listening.

Recognize and embrace humanity

We are all humans here. Recognize and respect your fellow humans regardless of race, religion, age, disability, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, or stance on the best breakfast tacos.

Consent is rad, and by rad, we mean MANDATORY

If you are planning on touching someone, taking something, being in another person’s space, or otherwise imposing yourself on another human being, ask them first. Asking is rad as hell (Pro-tip: It’s also the law).

Be professional

Capital Factory is a community of entrepreneurs, startups, mentors, investors, and community organizers. This is not your dating service. This is not your beer pong table. This is not your D&D group (unless you start a D&D group…). These are your peers, so treat them as such. Be courteous, kind, and respectful at all times.

Only service animals allowed

Capital Factory is aligned with current State and Federal regulations surrounding
Service Animals that provide essential function for a documented disability. Service animals who cause disruption, are out of control or not housebroken will be asked to be removed.

Emotional support or comfort animals are not permitted. Seriously, please don’t lie to us about your animal’s service status.

Pick up after yourself

Please pick up after yourself. If you move something, put it back. If you use the dishes, put them in the dishwasher. Leave the space as you found it…or even better! (Remember “pay it forward” discussed above?)

Don't harass people

We do not tolerate harassment of any kind. Therefore do not stalk, text, call, email, follow, badger, intimidate, threaten, or otherwise make yourself impossible to disengage from. If someone tries to move on from the conversation, let them go– in person AND online. If someone explicitly tells you to leave them alone, then leave them alone. Period. The End.

Do not sexually harass people. This includes teasing, jokes, innuendo, photos/images, gestures, touching, grabbing, or giving gifts of a sexual or unwanted nature. This is supremely not cool. Don’t do it. If you are questioning whether or not your intended behavior is crossing the line, DO NOT DO IT.

See something, say something

See something/someone suspicious? Say something to the front desk. Email help@capitalfactory.com. This is your home away from home, so treat it as such. Feel empowered to say something and please escalate any concerns immediately to someone on the staff or leadership team. You can also always call building security at 512-320-5990 if you need assistance.

Thievery sucks

Don’t take other people’s physical property. Don’t take other people’s intellectual property (but please do contribute to open source). And don’t take other people’s tacos.

Gossip sucks, too

Don’t share disparaging comments and rumors about others. (Remember that Golden Rule!)

No weapons. No tobacco.

We like our weapons virtual. So do not bring weapons of any kind. Don’t smoke, don’t vape, don’t chew. Leave your bongs and your rocket launchers at home too.

Alcohol

Any alcohol at public events must be served by TABC certified bartenders.

Alcohol available in the kitchen is for members over 21 years in age and must be drank responsibly. This is for having a beer after a long day of work, not for getting drunk at the office.

Drugs

Don’t do illegal drugs. Don’t hack into places you shouldn’t. Don’t do anything that would put our community in jeopardy.

Moderation is awesome

You’re an adult, we expect you to know your limits like one. This is in regard to alcohol as well as snacks and NA drinks in the space- we want there to be enough for everyone!

Photos

Do not take photos of anyone in our space. Consent continues to be rad….and mandatory. Take all the wide-shot photos of our events that you want, and we’re totally down with pictures of the sponsors and organizers during announcements. But don’t take pictures of individuals without their…say it with me now….CONSENT!

WE WILL KICK YOU OUT

Any violation of the above is an excellent way to get tossed out or banned completely from our space. And that would make us super-sad. We would rather that we all just get along and be cool to each other.

Finally, if you have any questions on any of the above, please email us at
community@capitalfactory.com. We’re here to help!
