Focused Energy

About Focused Energy

The company is building the technology for a fusion power plant that leverages laser driven radiation to produce a beam of energy comparable to nuclear power without producing nuclear waste as a byproduct. In early December 2022, the CA based, Federal fusion research facility, Lawrence Livermore demonstrated net energy gain from a very similar style of nuclear fusion as Focused Energy. They demonstrated in their National Ignition Facility that 2.1 mega joules of laser power could produce a 2.5 mega joule output - the first instance where more energy was created than consumed in the fusion process. Focused Energy uses a very similar fusion process, with the same fuel source, and at least 5 of their team members were critically involved in the building and testing of the Livermore fusion. The difference is Focused Energy modified the approach to optimize for commercial viability, using more modern technology and more efficient fuel consumption. Founding members of Focused Energy built and patented this variation with the belief they could create mass scale, clean energy sold to energy grids around the world. They estimate a 40,000 GW energy gap that humanity will need to confront, but only have 24,000 GW of renewable energy to fill the gap, driving the need for nuclear fusion to pave the way.
